The lifeless body of a young girl, believed to be around 9 years old, was discovered in Voinjama, Lofa County, on Sunday morning, January 26, with a bloodstained knife found nearby, raising suspicions about the circumstances of her death.
According to James Kollie, Ok’s FM correspondent in Lofa County, he conducted an interview with one of the alleged murderers identified as Musu P. Kanneh, a resident of Lofa County.
He added that, following an investigation, Musu gave a chilling account of the incident involving the tragic death of the young girl. According to Musu, she was at home when she heard a whistle sound early in the morning.
“I was playing with my dog in the yard when I heard the whistle. Curious, I decided to follow the sound,” Musu recounted. Adding, as she walked toward the source of the whistle, her dog attempted to follow her, but she sent it back. Upon reaching the scene, she saw a man standing with a little girl.
“I know him by face but not by name. He was wearing black trousers, a black shirt, and a face cap. He had a knife hidden behind him,” Musu explained.
She stated that, the man asked why she had come, and she replied that she had heard the whistle and wanted to know who had blown it. The man then revealed that he was the one who had whistled.
“Suddenly, he took the knife from behind him and handed it to me, ordering me to kill the little girl. I refused and told him I did not know her, so I couldn’t harm her,” Musu said.
Despite her refusal, the man insisted. Musu then tricked him by saying, “If you loosen the girl’s face, I will kill her,” she asserted. The man agreed and loosened the girl’s face. It was at that moment that Musu recognized her-it was her own sister-in-law.
“When the girl saw the knife in my hand, she began pleading, ‘Musu, please don’t kill me. I hold your foot.’ I reassured her, saying, ‘I will not kill you. You are the only sister-in-law I have,” Musu stressed.
The little girl then urged Musu to take a few steps and call for help. As she attempted to leave, the man called her back, demanding that she complete the task.
“I refused again, telling him that even if it were someone else’s child, I wouldn’t do it because I have a child of my own-a three-year-old son,” she stated.
Angered by her refusal, the man ordered her to return the knife to him. As soon as she turned away, he grabbed the knife and brutally cut the little girl’s throat, killing her instantly. “This was exactly what happened,” Musu concluded.
Meanwhile, Community members have expressed deep concern over the incident and are calling for a swift and thorough probe into the matter. They are urging authorities to take immediate action to ensure justice is served and accountability is upheld.
