Gbarpolu Unveils Official Squad For 2025 National County Sports Meet

Gbarpolu County has officially announced its final football squad for the 2025 National County Sports Meet, set to kick off on Sunday, January 12, 2025, in Sinoe County.

The squad, consisting of 25 talented players from various clubs, is now ready to represent Gbarpolu in Group C of Liberia’s premier sporting event.

As the tournament nears, the county is calling on all its residents, lawmakers, and local businesses to rally behind the team and support their journey.

The Gbarpolu County Sports Steering Committee released the full roster today, which includes a mix of experienced players and up-and-coming talents, with a strong focus on teamwork and balance.

The squad will be led by Head Coach Stephen G. Tarr, who expressed confidence in the team’s ability to deliver a strong performance.

“We have a great blend of experience and youthful energy in this team,” Coach Tarr stated. “The players are not just talented; they are determined to make Gbarpolu proud. We have high hopes for the tournament, and we believe we can bring the trophy home.”

However, Gbarpolu County faces significant challenges as it prepares for the event. The county has allocated $20,000 for the team’s participation, but due to delays in the release of county development funds, the Sports Committee had to take a $10,000 loan to ensure that preparations continued smoothly.

This loan, which carries a 10% interest rate, has created a financial shortfall, with the committee now urgently needing an additional $9,000 to cover the remaining expenses.

In light of these financial difficulties, the county is calling on the support of all Gbarpolu residents, lawmakers, and businesses to come together and help ensure the team’s participation.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports has provided L$1.8 million to aid in the effort, but with the funds not expected to be available until January 13; just as the team will be enroute to Sinoe; the county’s preparations remain in jeopardy.

“This is a crucial moment for us. While we have made significant progress in preparing the team, the financial support we need to ensure our participation is still falling short,” said a member of the Gbarpolu County Sports Steering Committee. “We are calling on every resident, every lawmaker, and every business in Gbarpolu to contribute whatever they can. Whether it’s financial support or moral encouragement, every bit helps.”

The official roster of the squad is a testament to the county’s commitment to excellence, with a well-rounded mix of players in every position:
