Former Speaker George Dweh is Dead

Erstwhile National Transitional Legislative Assembly (NTLA’s) former Speaker George Dweh is dead. He died on Saturday, 4 April at the John F. Kennedy Hospital following a brief illness in Monrovia.
He was cousin to the late President Samuel Kanyon Doe, and also father-in-law of Montserrado County’s Electoral District #10 Representative, Yekeh Kolubah.
Until his demise, Dweh, 69, was a prominent Liberian politician who became speaker during Interim ship of the late Charles Gyude Bryant. He was also staunch member of the governing party (Coalition for Democratic Change’s) Governing Council headed by Cyril Allen.
Listed for prosecution in the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) final report for alleged abuses during the course of the Liberian civil war, Dweh operated in the Liberian United for Reconciliation and Democracy (LURD) as well as the Movement for Democracy in Liberia (MODEL) faction groups.
