Former Deputy Speaker Barchue Is Dead

Grand Bassa County District 1 Representative and former Deputy Speaker of the Legislature, Hans Barchue, is dead.

Though the state broadcaster (ELBC) did not state the cause of death, Barchue had been battling illness for a protracted period almost throughout his entire second term as Representative.

Until his demise yesterday, Barchue was seeking his third term bid in the pending October 10 Presidential and Legislative elections.

He won both elections as an independent candidate, even though Grand Bassa has proven to be the stronghold of the Liberty Party.

In 2020, Barchue alongside Roselyn Sneh, former Superintendent of Grand Kru Count; Romeo Quiah, former Superintendent of Sinoe County and Trokon Hills declared their membership with the Liberty Party.

In his declaration at the time, Barchue said; “As current Representative of District 1, Grand Bassa County, I do hereby declare my intent to join the Liberty Party as of today’s date and pledge to work hard for the success of this Party.”
