The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has with immediate effect issued new measures for citizens wishing to acquire various categories of Liberian Passports until further notice.The decision is to ensure the health and wellbeing of citizens bearing in mind the safety concerns of overcrowding in the wake of a confirmed case of Corona-virus in Liberia.
According to a Foreign Ministry release, daily receipt of new applications for both regular and expedited services has with immediate effect been reduced to 55 persons daily beginning at 9:00 am to 12:00 noon.
These 55 applicants, according to the release, will be required to wash their hands and also go through a robust mandatory temperature check before being ushered into the building in batches of six persons at a time.
The release further noted that persons coming to pick-up passports will be required to register their names as well as the assigned passport officer who will deliver their booklets according to the pickup schedule already in place.
The registration of names commences from 12:00 noon to 1:00 post meridian, and runs throughout the official working hours in an orderly manner at the entrance of the parking lot, leading to the Passport Bureau.
The release further stressed that persons who earlier registered their names with the assigned passport officer will be called one after the other to take delivery of their passport beginning 1:00 to 3:00 P.M.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also wishes to inform that these measures which will be reviewed periodically, are in no way intended to deprive citizens of their right to travel document rather, it’s in the interest of public safety and health of the citizens.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will handle emergencies on a case by case basis with the necessary safety precautions being rigidly observed.
