The Debt Court has ordered the arrest of several officials of the United People Party (UPP) for refusing to pay US$10,000 to a former member of the party, George E.S. Boley.
Those ordered arrested were the Chairperson of the party, Susan Lorpu Marotr; the National Vice Chair for Recruitment and Mobilization, Emmanuel Kweteh and the National Vice Chair for Youth Affairs, Rev. Klay Moore, among others.
Plaintiff Boley explained that when UPP was cited for a conference on March 20, 2023, through their representatives, they promised to pay the debt on May 30, 2023 and explained further that when an agreement was made the UPP refused to sign.
Judge James Jones’ decision comes after Dr. Boley filed a complaint to the court against the political party for owing him and refusing to pay.
In plaintiff Boley’s complaint, he said on October 2, 2022, he credited UPP US$10,000 to meet its requirement at the National Elections Commission (NEC) with an agreement that same will be refunded in three months period but stated that since that time, the party through a Chairlady and members of the Executive Committee and all officials have failed to pay.
The Judge then ordered the clerk to arrest the Chairperson and all executive members and keep them in custody if they fail to show properties to cover the said amount.
“You are hereby ordered to arrest the living bodies of the defendants and keep them in custody should they fail to show properties to cover the amount due the Plaintiffs (Boley) and have them (UPP Executives) safe kept in common until they shall have complied with the term and conditions of the Writ of Attachment and order of the court,’ the Judge instructed.
Judge Jones at the same time commanded the clerk to attach and take possession and custody of all identifiable properties and assets of the party’s Chairperson, Madam Marotr and all executive members to the total value of the money mentioned.
