The African Continental Chapter of the United Nations International Peace & Governance Council (UNIPGC) announced the appointment of former vice President Jewel Howard Taylor, as the new Matron of UNIPGC Africa during a ceremony held on October 4, 2024, at the Jewel Starfish Foundation in Congo Town.
Madam Taylor, the immediate past Vice President of Liberia, was recognized for her steadfast commitment to promoting peace and governance across the continent, reflecting the UNIPGC’s mission to foster sustainable development and ethical leadership in Africa.
The investiture ceremony was attended by dignitaries, including Ambassador Fanta Ceesay, UNIPGC Special Envoy, and Ambassador Jonathan Ojadah, UNIPGC Global President.
In his induction speech, Amb. Ojadah emphasized the historical significance of the event, stating, “This appointment underscores Madam Taylor’s dedication to humanity and her integrity, making her a fitting leader for our mission.”
In her oath of allegiance, Madam Taylor expressed her commitment to ethical governance, stating, “My decisions affect the well-being of individuals today and tomorrow. I will protect human rights, oppose discrimination, and safeguard the rights of future generations.”
She vowed to refrain from corruption and harmful management practices.
Reflecting on her recognition, Madam Taylor highlighted the importance of empowering women, especially as the International Day of the Girl Child approaches on October 11.
She urged attendees to engage in ongoing discussions about supporting the next generation of girls.
Madam Taylor’s contributions to humanitarian efforts and governance have earned her numerous accolades, including the Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf Recognition Award and the Pan African Award for Leadership Excellence.
She remains a powerful advocate for women’s rights, education, and democratic governance in Liberia.
With her new role at UNIPGC Africa, Madam Taylor aims to strengthen the organization’s initiatives in promoting peace, good governance, and sustainable development across the continent, ensuring that her leadership positively impacts communities and inspires future generations.
