The Federation of Liberian Youth (FLY) president has challenged parents to continue to send their children to school, especially the girl child.
President Banica Elliott stated, “In a rapidly changing world, parents must invest in the next generation of leaders and thinkers who will drive progress and find solutions to some of the biggest challenges facing the society.”
The FLY president said young people have always been at the forefront of innovation and change and parents must provide them with the resources and support they need to bring their ideas to life through education.
“Young people are the future of our country, and investing in their growth and development through the provision of safe and nurturing spaces is crucial. This investment in the youth will be a catalyst for change, helping to create a brighter future for our Country. We believe that supporting youth innovation and creativity is not only the right thing to do but also an investment in our collective future. By providing young people with the tools, they need to succeed, we can help create a more equitable and prosperous society for all,” she added.
The FLY’s first female president believes that investing in the future of Liberia’s youth is essential for the country’s sustainable growth and development and it will provide opportunities for young people to learn, grow and thrive, helping to mitigate social, economic, and political challenges they face.
Meanwhile, FLY president has urged the Government of Liberia to prioritize the building of a youth center and increase support for youth innovation and creativity.
Madam Elliott admonished the Government of Liberia to take action to secure the funding and resources necessary to construct this center and provide ongoing support for their maintenance and operation. The investment in the future of Liberia’s youth is an investment in the future of the country as a whole.
According to her, with the help of President Weah, the construction of a youth center would make a meaningful impact on the lives of young people in Liberia and could be a lasting legacy of Weah’s time in office.
She said there are many ways in which the government can help unleash the full potential of our youth, through improved access to technology and educational opportunities, providing funding and mentorship to young entrepreneurs.
“We believe that supporting youth innovation and creativity is not only the right thing to do but also an investment in our collective future. By providing young people with the tools, they need to succeed, we can help create a more equitable and prosperous society for all,” she said.
“Is time for the government to step up and demonstrate its commitment to the next generation by increasing support for youth innovation and creativity as FLY remains committed to improving the capacities and enabling the aspirations of youth so that they can contribute to and benefit from a more stable democracy,” Ms. Elliot added.
She made the statement recently in Gbarnga, Bong County when the government of Liberia through the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health in collaboration with partners launched school-based vaccination including Pediatric Pfizer Vaccines in the county.
