A forum to discuss the rights of women and other related issues has called for an immediate end to domestic violence against women and young girls.
The forum which brought together more than 300 Liberian women from across the country also looked at the protection of the rights of the Liberian women and young girls who are disadvantaged.
Appearing as guest, Gender and Child Protection Minister Williametta Piso Saydee-Tarr told a cross section of women delegates at the forum that the recent passage of the Domestic Violence Bill by the House of Representatives and Concurrence by the Liberian Senate brought relief to the numerous problems affecting the Liberian women.
She called for the urgent printing into handbill of the Domestic Violence Bill which could help deter those who may have continue permeating violence against the Liberian women.
She lauded the Liberian Women for the level of tolerance they have exhibited over the years even by going through the storm by men.
Meanwhile, several participants at the occasion, including Liberia Feminist Caroline Bowah want Liberian women understand some of the issues affecting them.
Speaking to the media shortly after the opening of the forum, Madam Bowah said, the issue of civil and Traditional marriages need to be understood by the women.
She warned Liberian women to be hesitant in marrying people who have hidden agenda, but want them to be careful not to be victims at the end of the day.
For her part, the Deputy Minister for Urban Affairs at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Famata Roesler wants Liberian women to also understand the effects of some of those relationships that will render them as victims.
She further stated that gone are the days when the male dominance was seen, but wants women in the country to get on par with their males counterparts in the conduct of the homes.
The forum which brought more than 300 women also addresses the rights of land ownership and the rights of the Liberian women in marital affairs.
The recent passage of the much talked about Domestic Violence Bills which spent more than five years in committee room of the House of Representatives was reintroduced at the Plenary of the House of Representatives by Rivercess District #1 Representative Rosana G.D.H. Schaack and passed.
