A top female journalist, Melissa Chea-Annan, says she sees a ‘sign of hope’ given the huge number of women in journalism in the country.
She believes that young women taking up learning-courses in journalism schools would certainly help to increase media education or literacy, a crucial role in Liberia’s media development process.
Chea-Annan made the assertions Friday, 25 November, 2022, when she shared experience with aspiring journalists attending the Peter Quaqua School of Journalism-PQSJ in Monrovia.
She is visiting Liberia for the first time in 8-years since she moved to the United States of America.
The former Vice President of the Press Union of Liberia (PUL) paid tribute to the Peter Quaqua School of Journalism-PQSJ for leading the breeding of young media professionals in the country.
She however urged the aspiring journalists, especially the females to practice humility and integrity as they venture in mainstream journalism.
Annan also honored the memory of her fallen boss and mentor, Philip Wesseh, for impacting her professional life while working for The Inquirer Newspaper from 1997-2014.
The off-campus learning session organized by the Peter Quaqua School of Journalism-PQSJ was held at the A.M. Kyne Collegiate Resource Center in Sinkor.
On behalf of MediaAid Foundation, Board Chairman Necus Andrews recounted the outstanding performance of Journalist Melissa Chea-Annan while working in the Liberian media.
Meanwhile, three (3) PQSJ students: Jerry Yarsiah, Emma G. Davis and Jeremiah Sackie Cooper during the session received separate Certificate of Academic Excellence covering the last semester, while two (2) others: Meloshe Roberts and Hilton Wleh Jaydoe acquired Certificates in Specialized Training in Public Relations and Political Reporting respectively.
The Guest Lecture Session is held every semester and a week ahead of PQSJ’s Joint Midterm/Final Exams from Monday, 28 November to Friday 2 December 2022.
Peter Quaqua School of Journalism-PQSJ is Liberia’s flagship media school owned and operated by MediaAid Foundation, a Liberian NGO.
