FDA Staff In Court For Bigamy

By Grace Q. Byrant
Mrs. Evangeline Swope-Nyantee has been dragged to the Civil Law Court by her husband, Chris Nyantee, for legally marrying two men thereby committing bigamy.
In a seven-count document, plaintiff Nyantee filed a divorce that he and defendant Swope-Nyantee, a senior staff of the Forest Development Authority (FDA), entered into relationship in 2004 and give their shared appreciation of the time together.
They were joined in holy matrimony at the Faith United Prayer Church now renamed as New Jerusalem Church located in Gardnersville on April 29, 2006, officiated by Mother Rebecca Goanneh in peace and harmony with the fear of God.
According to him, they lived in harmony until her employer, she travelled to the United States for a job-related visit in 2010, but after the trip, he began to observe his wife was in constant communications with a man named Charles Kuyon whom he later understood was a resident of the United States of America at the time.
Plaintiff Nyantee said he later realized years after that his wife was actually engaged into extra-marital affairs with Kuyon; thereby committing adultery.
Plaintiff Nyantee explained that at the peak of the humiliation in 2011, she sent her friends to forcefully evict him from a house they both occupied at the time in Chocolate City which was owned by a church-sister, Gertrude Mahn.
He informed that court that Lucy and Folinda allegedly went to the house and threw every personal belonging of his out of the house and locked him out of his family home for and on behalf of his wife, Swope-Nyantee.
“Plaintiff submits that as a result of the public humiliation and shame suffered from the manner in which his things were thrown in the streets, he was unable to take anything valuable from their home including the copy of their wedding certificate, the pictures, etc,” he stated.
He maintained that before his humiliation by the defendant and subsequent breakup, the defendant encouraged him that the couple should build their future home on a parcel of land in Gardnersville belonging to the defendant to ease their migration from one rental property to another.
“At the time of this decision, we lived on Kesselly Boulevard, New Georgia Road, Iron Factory and then Chocolate City where we remained until she violently threw his things out,” he added.
However, the plaintiff claims that all of his investments for the construction remain in the house when his wife threw him out in a humiliating faction and that it was not until 2020 that he was reliably informed that his wife was living with Mr. Kuyon in the house built by him while with her and that they had even gotten married even though she is still married to him (Nyantee).
According to him, even though he was a junior student at the University of Liberia at the time, the psychological impact of his humiliation by his wife puts him out of school that he has not been able to return.
The plaintiff therefore prays that the court supports him during the pendency in this matter and further settles his as part of the divorce.
