EU Delegates Re-Introduce Scholarship Opportunity For Liberians

The European Union Delegation in Liberia in collaboration with the University of Liberia (UL) over the weekend completed a one day interactive session on the Erasmus+ program at the main campus of the University.
The Erasmus+ is an EU project that provides scholarship opportunities for students to study in any two European countries, as the Wednesday, November 27th, 2019 session basically focused mainly on the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degrees Program.
The Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degrees is available to all students who have completed their undergraduate studies, and under this module, all applicants are required to study for one or two years in at least two European Countries of their choice.
Also under the Erasmus+, grants will also be available for visiting scholars and guest lecturers that are said to bring added value to the degree course, as Liberians are eligible to apply.
In addition, students were also informed and encouraged about bilateral education programs offered by other countries like the Netherlands, Sweden and the United Kingdom (UK) respectively.
Speaking at the session, the head of EU’s Political, Press and Information session, Juan Antonio Frutos used the occasion to encourage more Liberian students to take advantage of the opportunity to apply for the Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters Degrees Program, adding that one of their main objectives is for all Liberians to apply and earn an opportunity to learn and give back to their country.
Also in remarks, a beneficiary of the Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters Degrees Program, John Mayson urged his colleagues to take advantage of the scholarship, stating, “All you need to do is to read the guidelines, follow the instructions, prepare your documents and apply for the program.”
He added that the program will not only make Liberians marketable but will also add to the development of their country (Liberia).
John Mayson holds Masters in Costal and Marine Engineering and Management (CoMEM) from two European Universities and is now working with the government of Liberia in the fight against Costal erosion.
Earlier, the EU Education Project Officer, Lorpu Faith Scott narrated that the process is free, fair and transparent, as “no one knows you.” She added that the selection committee is based in Europe, stressing, “We will only be here to help you on information concerning the application process, and if you have any question, you can call us.”
For his part, the UL Vice President for Institutional Development and Planning, Geegbae A. Geegbae lauded the EU delegates for the scholarship opportunity for students, while at the same time urged students to take advantage of the scholarship opportunity given them.
