The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of Liberia announces the immediate dismissal of Mr. Benjamin S. Karmorh, Jr. the Chief Technical Advisor (CTA) of the Agency, due to criminal misconduct.
On Tuesday, January 23, 2024, Mr. Karmorh allegedly led a group of persons raising concerns and disrupting normal operations within the Agency.
According to the allegation, Mr. Karmorh told staff that he was now the new head of the EPA to take over the agency because’ Prof. Tarpeh’s term is over.’
Karmorh, alongside two suspended employees and other individuals, orchestrated an unauthorized takeover of the management of the EPA.
Meanwhile, the dismissal letter cited this act as a direct violation of the laws, rules, and regulations governing the Agency attributing Karmorh’s action to impersonation and unlawful disruption of normal activities at the Agency and as well exposing the entity to undesirable public ridicule with the risk to its corporate reputation.
In a release signed by the EPA’s Head of Media & Corporate Communications Danise Love Dennis-Dodoo, Mr. Karmorh’s reliance on Executive Order #123, which he used to justify his alleged criminal actions, was misplaced.
Though it was not stated when this instrument came into force and under who’s government, this Executive Order #123 applies to non-tenured entities and does not extend to tenured agencies of the Government and the Executive Director/CEO is a tenured position with a seven-year renewable term.
The EPA said it takes this matter seriously, prioritizing adherence to legal and regulatory frameworks that govern its operations.
The Agency assures the public that it remains committed to upholding its mission of environmental protection and sustainable development.
