The Minister of Education, Jarso Jallah, has frowned over the misapplication of school grants, textbooks and other resources that are on the increase in the 15 counties across Liberia.
Speaking to reporters in Nimba, Minister Jallah said about 156 public school administrators received IRISE school grants in the country to carryout various for developments in the school but some administrators allegedly diverted the money for their personal use.
Minister Jallah named the IRISE school grants, textbooks and about USS$5, 000 intended for the construction of a computer lab as some of the resources mismanage by some public schools administrators.
According to the Minister, many of public school administrators received US$5, 0000 to construct modern computer laboratories for their schools but the money was allegedly diverted to different purposes.
“About 156 public schools received IRISE grants for developments of the school but many school administrators built substandard buildings in the name of a school and diverted most of the fund.
“I observed that many of the public school teachers are not in class couple with the misuse of the school textbooks and the misapplication of the IRISE school grants by administrators is also very alarming,” minister Jallah disclosed.
“School or administrators that received grants for development and misused them as well as those teachers who abandoned classes will bear the full weight of the law,” Minister Jallah assured.
Minister Jallah and her entourage recently toured some education districts along with the 13 DEOs and CEOs to inspect various education projects in Nimba County.
Nimba schools system contained over 447 public schools with over thousands being private and faith-based schools with 13 educational districts and 13 DEO respectively.
“The same problems over misuse of school grants, textbooks and IRISE school grants is on the increase in the Nimba school system,” Minister Jallah revealed.
This is the third allegation against the Nimba schools system in less than a year that is creating serious concern among the residents in the county.
Meanwhile, during the beginning of June, police intercepted MOE’s 5kV transmitter and other electronic devices in Sanniquellie which are still in the custody of the police.
Since April 2024, CEO Moses Dologbaye informed the police of burglary that led to the stealing of over 15 cartoons of senior high textbooks from the warehouse in Sanniquellie.
