DSA Closing Gap Atop Following Fassell Loss To Watanga

The new first division boys of the Discoveries Sports Academy have reduced the top table points between them and the table leaders Fassell Football Club to a narrow three points in the Liberia National First Division league.
The Legacy boys from the Gardnersville Township area won their last matchday fixture 2-0 against Freeport Football Club at home on the Two United Sports Associations (TUSA) Sports Pitch.
Discoveries currently occupying the second spot of the league table from the top engage their opponents from the port in their 19th league match of this season with robust tactics pointed to reducing the points gap in the boiling top region of the table.
The desperation of the team to get a win was manifested through the playing pace of those wearing her workaholic outfit throughout the full 90 minutes stipulated time clocked for a match.
They played to a goalless first half where both teams struggled to break the posing defense in search for a celebratory finish. After the break, the match grew hotter from different indications but the results started coming in the 75th minute.
DSA Captain in Jonathan Freeman, got the curtain raiser in the 75th minute of the match. He moved the ball fast past the defenders lined up with him and took an unstoppable shoot that read the back of the net with a goal. The splendid goal stood his home fans to their feet for the rest of the minutes that were not yet recorded in the match.
The youthful captain completed the task for his side at 90 minutes with another courageous goal to get a brace. On this occasion, the goalkeeper of Freeport FC was the biggest victim of his dribbling skill when he challenged the entire backline with a running challenge that no one could disrupt.
Jonathan Freeman has now updated his goal account in the national first division league to a total of 12 goals scored in his club debut season at the nation’s premier football competition.
He is now the competition’s third highest scorer behind Emmanuel Flomo of LISCR Football Club and Nicholas Andrews of heaven Eleven Football Club.
Discoveries Sports Academy with the youngest playing team in the competition this year is now 35 points in the second place behind Fassell Football club with 38 points.
Just before Discoveries defeated Freeports, FC Fassell painfully lost their 19th match fixture to Watanga in a narrow 1-0 encounter at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex Practice Pitch in Paynesville City.
Nuch Zohn, got the lone goal to get the reigning champions smiling again in the league and moving two slots above the eight-place slot they initially occupied.
The national first division is now at its boiling stage with all fourteen participating teams battling every matchday to secure a better position at the end of the season.
While teams at the top of the table are fighting to win the competition and make Liberia’s representation to the Next Season Qualifiers of the Confederation of African Football Champions League, the teams at the bottom region are only hoping that the rest of the matches in the current campaign favor them with results that hold their survivability.
The relegation zone will make a way for the top three teams in the second division league to get promotion in Liberian football.
The zone considered as the red zone, is currently occupied by Invincible Eleven, Mighty Barrolle and Shaita Football Clubs.
Nineteen matches have been played in the 2024/25 league season with a remainder of seven games to complete the current campaign.
