Drugs Investigation Heats Up In Ganta

Two Nigerian nationals suspected of drug trafficking are undergoing investigations at the Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency in Ganta, Nimba County.


Speaking to a team of reporters, the LDEA explained that the two Nigerians were arrested while traveling from the border town of Loguatuo to Monrovia on a commercial vehicle along with a deputy LIS Commander assigned at the border in Loguatuo, Nimba County.


Speaking on the same issue, the LDEA senior officer explained that the two Nigerians passed through the border in Loguatuo and were traveling without proper traveling documents under the watchful eyes of a senior LIS Deputy Commander assigned at the border in Loguatuo.


The LDEA intimated that preliminary investigation will establish whether these Nigerians are drug- dealers or that the LIS Deputy Commander assigned in Loguatuo was escorting the two Nigerians to Monrovia for lack of documents.


“We got a tipoff on the vehicle that two Nigerian crossed the border in Loguatuo without searching their traveling bags and goods, ” the LDEA acknowledged.


Speaking further to this paper at the LDEA office in Ganta, the vehicle operator, Peter Kanway, explained that the Nigerians including the LIS officer got on the car at Loguatuo to carry them, but were arrested by the LDEA officers near Ganta and taken to the LDEA sub office.


During the normal routine at the LDEA office, the deputy LIS Commander assigned at the Loguatuo border was sitting on the porch of the LDEA during the preliminary investigation.


When contacted, the LDEA Commander Thomas Saye, explained that the LDEA got intelligent report that two Nigerians had crossed the border in Loguatuo and were coming to Ganta with an LIS officer on board.


According to Commander Saye, preliminary investigation revealed further that the Nigerians traveled from Nigeria to Loguatuo and entered without proper traveling documents, adding that one of the Nigerians explained to the investigation board that robbers stole his traveling bag and escaped with it to Abidjan, Ivory Coast.


He stated that the inspection team found a white powder, but were still under investigation to establish whether the powder contained drugs, and when this paper contacted the LIS Deputy Commander assigned at the Loguatuo border at the LDEA office, he refused to speak for security reasons.
