DPPL To Hold 1st National
Convention In Buchanan

By Bill W. Cooper
Ahead of the 2023 general elections, the Democratic People’s Party of Liberia (DPPL) has announced plans for the holding of its first national convention slated for this Friday, April 1, 2022.
The DPPL through its acting Chairman, Rev. David Kiamu stated that the convention which is expected to take place in the Port City of Buchanan, Grand Bassa County will be graced by party delegates from across the 15 counties of Liberia.
Addressing a news conference yesterday in Margibi County, the DPPL acting chairperson among other things narrated that the convention is also expected to last for three days; from April 1 to April 3, 2022.
He said the holding of the party’s first ever national convention is predicated upon the National Elections Commission (NEC) that “a political party should hold a convention and elect its party structure in order to be eligible to participate in the country’s elections.”
According to him, positions to be contested for during the convention include National Chair, National Secretary General, National Youths Wing Chair, National Women Wing Chair and the party’s Political leader among others.
He stated further that those expected to be elected at the national convention on Friday will be tasked with the responsibilities to drive the party into activities and the holding of party nominations that will lead them to the 2023 general elections.
“The following positions are now open for any Liberian who wants to run for any of them because the DPPL is a party for all irrespective of one’s religion, affiliation or county of origin,” he emphasized.
Rev. Kiamu then vowed to ensure a free, fair and transparent convention void of political manipulation which he said has the tendency to undermine the DPPL chances during the 2023 general elections.
Meanwhile, the DPPL acting chairman has further revealed that the DPPL will not join or form alliance with any other political parties during the first rounds of the 2023 elections, adding, “I can assure all of our supporters that the DPPL will participate in the 2023 elections and if there is a second round, we will make a determination for a way forward.”
