Liberia women’s representative at the continental women champions league qualifiers, Determine Girls have tasted defeat for the first time against Mogbewmo Queens.
A Wednesday August 8, 2024 match played at the Southern Arena in Bo City; Sierra Leone broke the winless run in the history of Mogbewmo Queens when the defeated their Liberian counterpart 2-1 in a competitive fixture.
A moment for celebration the filled Sierra Leonean sports pitch with the home side getting the match opener in seven minutes of play through a heading finished by Nande Kwaimie.
The fresh blood drawn by the Queens placed the Liberian outfit into a situation of searching for an equalizer for more than 30 minutes until Bintou Sylla of Determine Girls took advantage of a dangerous goal keeping error to get an equalizer.
After settling the score line to a one-all, Kadiatu kamara from the Sierra Leonean outfit extended her team lead to a 2-1 at 44 minutes.
The last-minute goal for the half again put Mogbewmo Queens in a better spirit to defend the rest of the playing time.
From the rest period of half time, the two sides employ different strategies which lead to complete show down for straight 45 minutes without a single goal.
Determine Girls were challenged with a task of overturning the score to secure at least a draw that had the potential of relaxing the final match expectation but, the Mogbewmo Queens were at their very best determined to get their first ever win against the Liberian side which was achieved at the end of the match.
Up to press time, the standing of the West African football Union (WAFU), Zone ‘A’ qualifiers which is the preliminary stage of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Women Champions league has the Liberia side in the top spot.
Determine Girls are left with a single match to be played on Sunday at the tournament venue and a win against Aigles De La Medina in the upcoming fixture will be the most decisive one to take them to another edition appearance in the women champions league.
