Defense Minister Calls For Stronger Inter-Agency Collaboration …Rolls Out Armed Forces Day Activities

The Minister of National Defense Brigadier General(rtd), Geraldine Janet George, has called for enhanced inter-agency collaboration among security institutions, emphasizing its necessity for safeguarding democracy and ensuring national stability.
Speaking on Tuesday, February 4 at the Armed Forces Day Symposium in Monrovia, the Minister underscored the critical role of coordinated security efforts in addressing emerging threats and strengthening Liberia’s democratic foundations.
The symposium, held under the theme “Effective Stakeholder Engagement through Inter-Agency Collaboration for the Enhancement of Sustainable Democracy,” brought together key stakeholders, including representatives from the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL), law enforcement agencies, the Judiciary, civil society organizations, and international partners.
Minister George emphasized that, democracy thrives when institutions work in synergy to uphold the rule of law, protect human rights, and foster national stability. She highlighted the AFL’s role as a national safeguard, not only in defense but also in peacekeeping, disaster response, and humanitarian efforts.
“Inter-agency collaboration is not an option it is a necessity,” the Minister stated. “It is the bridge that links security and governance, ensuring all actors work together to protect the nation sovereignty and uphold the aspirations of our people,” she said.
The Minister stressed the need for joint training programs, intelligence sharing, and technological advancements to enhance security operations. She pointed to initiatives like EX WATCHOVER as crucial for boosting coordination among security forces and improving national defense capabilities.
“Investing in cybersecurity frameworks, real-time data analysis, and capacity-building programs will significantly enhance our responsiveness to both internal and external threats,” she noted.
She however emphasized that, public trust in security institutions is essential for a thriving democracy. She called for stronger community engagement, civic education, and social initiatives to foster trust between security forces and the public.
Additionally, she highlighted the importance of diversity and inclusivity within Liberia’s security sector, urging for greater representation of women and marginalized groups to enhance the effectiveness of national security strategies.
Minister George lauded their contributions to training, logistics, and capacity building. She emphasized that, strengthening these partnerships would further solidify Liberia’s security infrastructure and democratic resilience.
As the symposium concluded, the Defense Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to national security, inter-agency collaboration, and democratic governance.
“The future of Liberia is in our hands,” she declared. “By working together, fostering partnerships, and committing to democratic values, we can build a nation that is secured, peaceful, and resilient,” she concluded.
