Members of the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP) have voted giving its standard bearer, Alexander B. Cummings 14 days to name his running mate for the upcoming October 10, 2023 general elections.
The CPP is a conglomeration of the Alternative National Congress (ANC) and the Musa Bility faction of the Liberty Party (LP).
According to information from Ganta, Nimba County where the CPP National Convention was held, Mr. Cummings was also mandated to ensure that a ceremony be held in the home county of the person to be named as his running mate.
It is anticipated that Mr. Cummings will in obedience of his party’s mandate to name his running mate on May 27 or 28, 2023 as several names including Cllr. Charlyne Brumskine all on the radar for a pick.
Prior to the convention, it had been rumored that Mr. Cummings had settled on Cllr. Brumskine, the daughter of the Liberty Party’s founding father and political leader, the late Charles Brumskine.
There was a high expectation from citizens at the much anticipated convention that a running mate would have been announced by Mr. Cummings but that did not materialize on grounds that the ANC’s constitution prohibits such announcement at said event.
It was raised by the ex-chairperson of the ANC, Lafayette Gould, in a last-minute motion that a pronouncement of a would-be person be named in the person’s county of nativity, in concurrence with the constitution.
However, it follows after the ANC and LP held their separate conventions before converging into a single meeting to have the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP) convention.
The convention was intended to endorse or name Representatives and Senatorial aspirants who will be contesting on the CPP’s ticket and as well elect a standard bearer that would have subsequently lead to the choosing of a running mate.
The ANC 5th National Convention was attended by over 250 delegates from across the 15 counties of Liberia, as well as delegates from the United States, Canada, and other parts of the world.
