Solicitor General Sayma Syrena Cephus has advised the Attorney General not to challenge Alexander Cummings’ bond because the bond met all the requirements.
The political leader of the Alternative National Congress (ANC), Alexander Cummings, did appear in court as per the charges levied against him by the All Liberian Party (ALP) but Cllr. Cephus said, “Even if we give Mr. Cummings 13.5, no one should challenge his bond because he is a honorable man and he cannot leave the country.”
The ANC’s political leader was charged with the Crimes of Forgery and Criminal Conspiracy in violation with Section 17.70 of the New Penal Law of Liberia and Judge Jomah Jallah’s decision comes following a Writ of Arrest issued through the Monrovia City Court.
Following the acceptance of his bond, Cummings described the Writ of Arrest issued him as baseless and unfounded, terming same as a mistake to come after him because according to him, the case is averagely baseless.
Speaking to a team of reporters when he appeared at the Monrovia City Court at the Temple of Justice to secure the appearance bond, Mr. Cumming extol the judicial system for the level of independence displayed, adding that the legal system will prevail.
“Let me say this. The judicial system work today and I am hoping that it will continue to work in the future. I want to appreciate all my supporters and Liberians at large for the support and love shown me today. This is a clear demonstration of their unconditional love towards me” he said.
The ANC political leader further indicated that the plan by the ALP political leader, Benoni Urey to break up the Collaborating Political Parties will not work because Mr. Urey has no point and he will be defeated in accordance with the law because the case is baseless.
Mr. Cummings also expressed disappointment over the alleged refusal of Amb. Joseph N. Boakai to speak on the current allegation and internal fight in the CPP particularly between himself and Mr. Urey.
“I am surprised that the Chairperson of the CPP, Boakai had continued to remain silent and fail to speak out on this allegation and the fight within the CPP. We are not deterred because this fight is about changing Liberia and the system that has taken advantage of the Liberian people” the ANC political leader disclosed.
“I believe that Mr. Urey is going after me because he is pay agent of the government and they see me as a threat to them but it will not work,” he alluded.
Mr. Cummings concluded, “The Liberian people will still vote us because we are clean people with good integrity and records and aside from what all they are saying, we will make every effort to continue to engage our people.”
