The Civil Society Network of Liberia (CSNL) says it welcomes the Indictment and Writ of Arrest issued by ‘Criminal Court C’ against Cllr. Johnny Momoh.
The action was drawn from a complaint of ‘Theft of Property, Burglary and Criminal Conspiracy’ in a long-standing case filed by Madam Marie Nellon against him.
It can be recalled that on April 8, 2023, Cllr. Momoh was arrested for allegedly conspiring with Johnny Yorvors, Augustine Sellay, Patricia Miatta Kamara and Moses Miller, to steal cash and valuable properties in the amount of US$575,385 and L$80,000 that were allegedly missing from Madam Nellon when he threw her belonging out of the house in her absence.
The Network said, as a pro-democracy group that believes in justice, it sees the indictment against Cllr. Momoh and others as the beginning of deserved justice for Madam Nellon.
The Civil Society Network believes that the indictment against Cllr. Momoh and others is justifiable, as his action led Madam Nellon to lose several of her belongings including US$500,000 worth of jewelries; clothes and money amounting to US$75,387; 3,000 Euros and CF$5,000.
“Cllr. Momo’s indictment is a timely relief to Madam Marie Nellon who immediately took Cllr. Johnny Momoh to court for remedy in recovering her belongings and money,” the Networks stated in a statement approved by its Executive Director, Sensee Kiadii
“We also laud Criminal Court ‘C’ for the indictment against Cllr. Momoh, as investigations conducted by the Civil Society Network established how Cllr. Momoh and Co-defendant intentionally, maliciously and willfully conspired and connived with the resolved intent to burglarize and commit theft when they broke into the private home, entered and violently and rudely invaded the resident, and entered the bedroom of Madam Marie Nellon where she had all of her belongings,” CSNL went on.
The Civil Society Network stated that Cllr. Johnny Momoh deserves the indictment writs of arrest adding that his character does not reflect the law profession.
They asserted that, “Cllr. Momoh knowingly violated several sections of the Statutory Laws of Liberia, relating to Theft of Property, Burglary and Criminal Conspiracy which is unimaginable for a well-known lawyer in Cllr. Momoh to have caused so much psychological and emotional pains for a Liberian woman who was his serious fiancée for eight years.
Meanwhile, the Network called for the immediate recusal of Criminal Court ‘C’ Judge, Blamo Dixon since his daughter is the current fiancée of Cllr. Jonny Momoh based on our investigation.
“This is a fundamental practice in law, relating to conflict of interest. Cllr. Dixon’s reported connection to Cllr. Momoh could prejudice the case,” they opined.
However, the Civil Society Network of Liberia is calling for a speedy and impartial trial of the case, the organization remains determined to closely follow the case at the court, like it has been doing since the case was filed
