Crusader For Peace Select Margibi For Kukatonnon Program

In an effort to sustaining the 16-year interrupted peace in Liberia, the Liberia Crusaders for Peace (LCP), has announced this year’s national Kukatornon under the theme “ Let’s Unite; Show love For Peace and Reconciliation”.
Making the disclosure last week Friday on the Capitol Bye-pass, the Crusaders for Peace Executive Director, Madam Juli Endee said this year’s Kukatornon will be held in August 16- 17.
According to her, this year’s program is intended to remind Liberians of the interrupted peace as well as sustaining it.
According to madam Endee, conflict prevention is less costly than conflict mediation or dispute resolutions, adding, it is extremely critical at this stage in Liberia for Liberians to cultivate the peace by everyone.
“We must engage our people, mobilize them, and encourage them to grow out of their conscience of arrogance, disrespect for human values, democratic principles, the rule of law, and continue to maintain the peace,” she said.
She maintained that in the absence of peace, including genuine reconciliation, nationalism, patriotism, love for country, and respect for the rule of law, peace is not sustainable.
Adding, “We, Liberians must understand the necessities and imperatives of a united Liberia and our individual and collective role in promoting sustainable peace”.
She said it is essential and paramount as a nation to solidify the gains made over the past 16 years and look beyond the box to consider the need to strongly support local and traditional peace-building initiatives and programmes here.
She emphasized that Peace-building embodies a vision of a society that is peaceful; respects and protects the rights of citizens and ensures that disputes and tension which are normal to any society are handled in a way that precludes their escalation into organized violence.
“It is against this backdrop that, the Liberia Crusaders for Peace and its partners have deemed it prudent to help the Government of Liberia and other development partners in mobilizing general Liberian public in promoting lasting peace in Liberia and re-establishing the co-existence of cultural relations with all counties. The peace that Liberia now enjoys must be sustained,” the LCP Executive Director said.
Madam Endee reiterated that this year’s Kukatornon Peace Festival event is in celebration of 16-years of uninterrupted peace in Liberia since the end of the Liberian civic war in August 2003; and it is also in commemoration of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement [CPA] signed on August 18, 2003 in Accra, Ghana.
