The Monrovia City Court has released Simeon Davis on USD$140,000 criminal appearance bond; after charged with the Commission of the crime of theft of property and misapplication of entrusted property by the police over the weekend.
Defendant Davis was charged based on a complaint filed by the Secretary General of the Collaborating Political Parties who alleged that he had stolen USD$ 65,000 intended for the party’s rally.
The said bond amounts to twice of the alleged money stolen by the defendant on December 15, 2022, just few days to the much-anticipated event that was held on December 17, 2022.
Defendant Simeon Davis was apprehended by Interpol Security at the Sierra Leone Bo Waterside border on January 17, and subsequently brought in to be investigated by the Liberia National Police where he denied the allegation.
During police investigation, defendant Simeon Davis had told police that he was not in Monrovia on the 15th of December when the incident occurred. According to him, his boss had given him USD$100 on December 13, 2022 to seek medical attention in Sierra Leone at which time he took his leave thus turning the keys of the car over to another driver identified as William Sayonkon, a driver of the Collaborating Political Parties.
But, police investigation established that on the day of the incident defendant Davis was present with his boss and two other persons, who also testified that the defendant was present on the day; they also presented photo taken with the accused on the day the money was stolen.
It can be recalled that Simeon Davis, the driver of Liberty Party Secretary General Martin Saye Kollah on December 15, 2022, ran away with US$70K intended to fund the CPP rally in Monrovia.
According to the police, the actual amount stolen by the defendant was USD$65k as to the amount purported earlier in the media adding ” he made away with other valuables that were in the bag including an iPhone(7), an Ecowas Passport, Techno (Carma 7) and other things.”
Defendant Simeon G. Davis was acquainted with his Miranda rights and duly charged with the commission of the crime’s of theft of property and misapplication of entrusted property; which violates chapter 15 sub chapter D, section 15.21 and 15.56 of the revised Penal Code Law of Liberia.
However, on Monday, January 23, 2022, he was released by the Judge of the Monrovia City Court on a USD$140, 000 bond which is legal under the due process of the law of Liberia and was sent to Criminal Court “A” for trial.
