Criminal Court “C” in Montserrado County, under the authorization of Blamo Dixon has released defendant Peach Bility, who was incarcerated at the Monrovia Central Prison while awaiting trial on drug-related charges.
Bility had been facing prosecution for alleged violations of Liberia’s controlled substances laws, including the unlicensed possession, sale, and distribution of controlled drugs.
However, amidst widespread speculation and media reports suggesting an unlawful release, the Ministry of Justice issued a press statement refuting such claims and clarified that Bility’s release was carried out strictly per the court’s directive and that no procedural irregularities occurred.
“The Ministry of Justice wishes to inform the public that these news articles, statements, comments, assertions, and utterances are false and incorrect.
The Ministry urged the public and media outlets to seek official clarification before making speculative statements regarding judicial proceedings.
A copy of the court’s release order was also attached to the Ministry’s statement as evidence of due process.
As of now, there has been no official statement from the judiciary regarding the reasoning behind the defendant’s release.
Further legal proceedings in the case are expected to continue under the jurisdiction of Criminal Court “C”.
