For the first time in many years, the National County Meet has reported to the Liberian people on the fund raised during the nation’s premier sporting festival to set the pace of delivering a promise made by the government on changing the system.
The 2024 National County Sports Meet has proven to be a financial success, judging from a recent statement made by the Ministry of Youth and Sports through Minster Jeror Cole Bangalu.
The Youth and Sports Minister announced before the weekend that ticket sales for the 2024 version of the County meet raised a total of L$13.5 million and US$31,200.
He provided a detailed breakdown of the revenue, noting that the grand finale generated L$5.7 million and US$13,500.
The semifinal matches, which saw Lofa face Bomi and Grand Bassa compete against Montserrado, brought in an additional L$4.1 million and US$13,200.
Of the total revenue, L$6.2 million and US$23,264 were allocated to cover Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) taxes, county shares, and other expenses.
The Minister emphasized that the financial management during the group stage was handled by the host counties, ensuring local oversight of ticket sales at each venue.
Minister Bangalu assured the public that a complete financial report, including details on sponsorship and government support, would be released soon, promising transparency and accountability.
The substantial revenues underscore the strong community support and engagement for the National County Sports Meet, highlighting its importance as a key event in Liberia’s sporting calendar.
