The countdown to the kickoff of the 2023/24 preliminary rounds of the Confederations Of African Football (CAF) Interclub Competitions continues to intensify in Liberia, as local clubs prepare to battle African counterparts.
Two time Liberia champions, LISCR Football Club, and former champions Watanga Football Club, are set to represent the country in the CAF Champions League and the Confederations Cup, respectively.
As all stands now across the country, the two Liberian sides have revealed their preparedness to making history in interclub football for the country. The players are to continue their normal daily fitness warm-ups to ensure that the dreams and aspirations of the clubs come to life.
The Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville comes alive this Sunday, August 20, 2023, when Watanga welcome Stade Malien of Bamako, a Malian national league team, in the first leg of the CAF Confederations Cup.
Watanga manager, Cooper Sannoh, has assured supporters and stakeholders of the club that they as a team will put in an impressive performance, in a bid to make history. Watanga will then depart Liberia for the second leg of the competition, expected to take place in Mali August 27.
On the other hand, the ‘Shipping Boys’ of LISCR are currently in Bo City of neighboring Sierra Leone, to honor their first leg Champions League fixture against Bo Rangers.
The clash will take place on Saturday, August 19, at the Western Arena for the. Thereafter, LISCR will return to Liberia for the return fixture on Friday August 25, 2023. The mouthwatering encounter for Liberian football fans will ensue at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville.
