CoP Threatens Protest Action On Data Fees Increment

By Bill W. Cooper

A pressure group dubbed Council of Patriot (COP) has again promised to stage another protest against the CDC led-government aimed at relinquishing government’s quest to increase the prices of mega bile or data.
Recently, the government through the Liberia Telecommunication Authority (LTA) regulated the price of calls and data services provided by GSM companies in Liberia which allegedly caused GSM companies in the country as well as increasing the prices of data which also sparked up public outcry from the citizenry.
However, news reaching this paper also alleged that the government is now contemplating in similar direction again in order to enable government to generate more revenue from the telecommunication sectors as a means of supporting the country’s fiscal year budget.
Making the disclosure Wednesday, June 10, 2020 via the internet, the COP chairman in the Americas, Henry Costa said that the new protest is named “Operation Protect our Voice” and will not stop until the government can address the concerns of the Liberian people.
Mr. Costa noted that though he’s not in the country at the moment, but stated that his strong supporters will be the ones leading the charge from community to community leading protest until government plans to increase the data price from 2% to 6% is abolished.
He added that the decision by the government to increase the prices of data is only intended to silence critics of the regime who normally use social media platform to disseminate information about happenings of the government to the citizenry, alluding, “I will fight with my blood and sweat for the cancellation of this terrible deal by the government.”
Meanwhile, Costa has said that the protest time, venue and duration will not be disclosed but unknown for now and his “patriots” men can finally engage the street, while at the same time urged other Liberians to form part of the protest.
It can be recalled that since the ascendency of the Weah-Taylor regime, Henry Costa who is also the founder of the COP has organized series of protests ranging from the famous June 7 Save the State protest, Free Justina Taylor Protest, and the January 6 protest among others.
