Reports of a tussle over the City Mayor position between outgoing Mayor Moima Kamara and acting Mayor James Barker are making the rounds in Nimba Count.
There is this general consensus among residents that the delay in the appointment of a City Mayor is the cause of the ongoing strife.
According to Anthony Weegon, a resident, Kamara and Barker are ruining the Corporation as both of them are giving out official documents in the name of the Corporation.
“Moima Kamara is still in possession of the office stamp and some important documents, and James Barker is also in possession of the office stamp, giving out official documents in the name of the Corporation,” Weegon disclosed.
When this paper contacted former mayor Moima Kamara, she confirmed the political fight between her and acting Mayor James Barker.
“I am still a Mayor of Sanniquellie, until a new appointment by the President, and yes, I’m still in possession of the office stamp and bank book, until an appointment is done,” Kamara asserted.
According to Moima Kamara, those claiming the position don’t have documents, as she has the documents as Mayor of the city.
When this paper contacted the acting Mayor, James Barker, he explained that he was appointed as acting Mayor by the acting Superintendent, Darius Vaye.
“Moima Kamara refused to leave the office and is still running the city as Mayor,” Barker said.
When this paper contacted the acting Superintendent, Darius Vaye, he said he recognized James Barker as acting City Mayor of Sanniquellie, and referred to Moima Kamara as outgoing Mayor.
“By the proclamation of the former President Weah, all executive appointees should have vacated their positions a week prior to the inauguration; therefore, James Barker is acting Mayor of the city,” Vaye disclosed.
