The Ministry of Commerce has commenced phase one of its general market inspection across Liberia.
The nationwide inspection, which began Monday, February 17, 2025, to be concluded on March 28, is intended to weed out of the local market all products that will be viewed as unwholesome and hazardous.
It is also aimed at ensuring that all businesses operating throughout Liberia comply with the General Business Laws of the country.
The exercise is part of the Ministry’s statutory mandate and is being carried out daily, Monday to Friday, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
Business entities that are being inspected during the exercise include fresh and frozen food, supermarkets, building material stores, stationery stores, beverages (drinks), rice, and flour.
A release by the Ministry said other businesses that are being inspected are starches, chemicals/fertilizers, electronics, automotive, second-hand products, gas stations manufacturing industries, furniture shops/stores garages, restaurants, hotels/accommodations, etc.
The Ministry calls on all businesses falling into these indicated categories to take due note and act appropriately, as it will not hesitate to apply the requisite business laws to penalize those who might not comply.
As part of its commitment to ensuring that the inspection yields the anticipated results and, above all, promotes a conducive business environment for Liberia, the Inspectorate Division of the Ministry of Commerce & Industry has been instructed to exercise vigilance during the exercise.
