Bong County District 3 Representative, Marvin Cole, has affirmed his commitment to support Fonati Koffa as speaker in the 55th Legislature.
The 55th Legislature’s elections which will be held on Monday, January 15, and Cole said there will be no amount of pressure that will disengage him from the process of getting Koffa elected as Speaker.
Speaking at the Capitol Building on Tuesday, January 9, Cole told journalists that he has been receiving calls from highly placed government officials requesting him to join the team to support Richard Koon as Speaker in 55th Legislature.
“I do not believe that Richard Koon is competent for this position and I do not still believe that he will be able to be a very good Speaker because he comes from the incoming ruling establishment,” Cole surmised.
According to Cole, they have received threatening text messages to vote for Richard Koon to avoid stringent pressure from the incoming administration.
He maintained that when he informed the President-elect concerning those threatening texts, Amb. Joseph Boakai denied that he did not send any such messages.
“I am therefore informing all the supporters of team Koffa who are receiving similar texts in the name of the President-elect that it is false, baseless, and misleading, because the President-elect is not out for a one-party State,” he added.
He therefore called on all Bong County lawmakers to support Fonati Koffa for his leadership ability.
Lawmakers are expected to go to election on Monday, January 15, 2024 to elect a speaker that will head the incoming 55th Legislature, and the race for the speakership is currently between Fonati Koffa and Richard Koon as it stands.
