CMC Complains UP Officials Over Code Of Conduct Violation

21

The Citizens Movement for Change (CMC) has lodged a formal complaint with the Office of the Ombudsman, accusing senior officials of the Unity Party of flagrantly violating of Section 5.1 of Liberia’s Code of Conduct for Public Officials and Employees.
According to the complaint, submitted on April 13, 2025, CMC alleges that presidential appointees currently serving in senior government positions actively participated in political campaign activities while functioning in their official capacities—a move the group deems a “blatant disregard for the law.”
Section 5.1 of the Code of Conduct clearly prohibits appointed officials from engaging in political activities, canvassing, or contesting for elected office. It also bars the use of government resources for partisan activities and prohibits appointed officials from serving on campaign teams.
“The Citizens Movement for Change strongly condemns this action and urges your esteemed office to investigate and take appropriate action. This misconduct directly undermines the integrity of Liberia’s electoral process and sets a dangerous precedent for future elections if left unchecked,” the Secretary General CMC Wilfred Nehwon Bangura said.
CMC’s complaint calls for swift and impartial enforcement of the law, stressing that no official should be above the rule of law, regardless of political affiliation or status.
The Ombudsman’s office has yet to release an official response to the complaint. However, the move by CMC signals growing public scrutiny over the political conduct of government officials as Liberia heads deeper into the election season.
CMC has pledged to remain available for any further information the office of the Ombudsman may require during the course of the investigation.
