The Climate Activists Association of Liberia (CAAL) has launched its Climate Smart Agriculture Project in Needowein, Margibi County with a daylong awareness on the protection of the earth.
CAAL is an organization in Liberia pushing the country’s interest to the global community in terms of climate advocacy, awareness and environmental education.
Over the weekend, the institution gathered Liberians specifically from Margibi County who formed part of the initiative so as to use agriculture as a means to empower citizens and how to produce food for the people.
The organization’s Chief Executive Officer, Abubakar Kromah, told the gathering that the country is challenged in nearly every sector relative to climate protection but a collective effort when applied, could minimize the disadvantages.
Kromah said there are countries around the world with very high carbon fusion into the atmosphere due to the high use of technology and other heavy equipment but their actions affect every country.
According to him, there is a need for countless of Liberians to see adaptation as the way forward and make sure that their roles in damaging the climate remains very limited if it will not be stop totally.
“We are way behind in everything that is happening to the climate situation, but it is also clear that we all are part of the factors that is causing the problem. Let us work together and save this earth on which we live or else there is no where preserved for us,” he added.
The youth and climate activist disclosed that the risk at which the ozone layer of the earth is being damaged is because of actions of humans; mostly famers and industries’ operators.
He advised the youth of Margibi County to desist from engaging into lawless practices and sign up for programs or opportunities that will promote development for the country at large.
According to the CEO of CAAL, the newly launched agriculture project will benefit thousands of Liberians in the surrounding areas by producing food and other farming products for the market.
He said, “We are going to be in the cultivation of mango, avocado and many more, this is an opportunity for many people in and around this project area.”
Members of the organization went to several communities conducting cleanup and other exercises as residents sign-up to the movement.
The people of Needowein community expressed pleasure in seeing a group of young people engaging in agriculture and spreading education on climate activities.
