A conglomeration of opposition partisans under the banner, “United Opposition Taskforce” has called on the topflight opposition political leaders to reunite themselves before the 2023 elections in the country.
Addressing a major news conference on Monday, March 27, 2023 in Monrovia, the Chair, Barti Nicholas Barti said all members of the group are partisans and supporters of the Unity Party, All Liberian Party, the disputed Liberty Party and the Alternative National Congress respectively.
He stressed that a united opposition is the surest way to winning the 2023 Presidential and Legislatives Elections, and providing the long-anticipated hope for real change to the suffering masses of this country.
Barti added that the group members arrived at this position after a period of serious deliberation, calculation and in-depth analysis of the social, economic and political conditions of our country.
The group believes it is important to mention that they have explicit confidence in Ambassador Joseph Nyumah Boakai and Alexander Cummings, political leaders of the UP and ANC respectively.
According to Barti, the major aim of the opposition bloc is to remove the Weah-Taylor government and replace it with the one that is capable of bringing good governance, rule of law and economic prosperity.
“We are members and supporters of the Unity Party, the Alternative National Congress, the All-Liberian Party and the Liberty Party of Senator Nyonblee Karnga Lawrence and Mr. Musa Hassan Bility. We have arrived at this position after a period of serious deliberation, calculation and in-depth analysis of the social, economic and political conditions of our country,” Barti said.
He averred that for too long the citizens of Liberia have suffered the brunt of bad governance and betrayal by deceitful politicians, adding that they remain a generation without hope; envying the progress of the youths of other nations and wondering all alone when will our story change.
The group Chair noted that the youths and suffering masses of this country have regained some semblance of hope in the unification of the qualities of leaders the initial CPP provided, thus appealing to the opposition political leaders not to dash their hope away.
He indicated that they feel obliged to emphasize what they consider the singular most important fact in the opposition bloc; adding that they are all on the same side with one objective, to remove this embracement of a government and replace it with the one we know is capable of bringing good governance, rule of law and economic prosperity.
“A divided opposition is a gift to the ruling party. The question now remains; who are those giving this gift to the ruling party? The answer is simple and anyone who is against the unity of the opposition, anyone who decides to go alone, and anyone who says they can make it on their own,” Barti Nicholas Barti asserted.
