Christian Mend Re-Appointed As Rivercess Head Coach

With 11 days to the official kickoff of the nation’s most watched sporting festival, the National County Sports Meet, Rivercess County Sports Steering Committee has re-appointed Christian T Mend as head coach for Rivercess County football team.
The Mighty Barrolle head coach’s re-appointment was done over the weekend, after several consultations within the Rivercess County Sports Steering Committee.
Mend, who was on the touchline for Rivercess County in a friendly encounter in Kakata, Margibi County, against Margibi County, where he earned a one-all-draw on November 29, had been very much optimistic of being the favorite for the position, based on his past achievements with the county in the tournament, and moreover, his brilliant coaching skills on the domestic scene with Mighty Barrolle.
Mend’s club, Mighty Barrolle, is currently on top of the Orange National First Division League table, where his club remains one of the two clubs on the domestic scene to have a 100% home record since the start of this season.
Under his guidance, Mighty Barrolle have recorded six wins in their six home fixtures.
He has tasted just one defeat in his 11 games on the touchline for the Kanyon Pepper Boys of Mighty Barrolle, accumulating 26 points, winning 8, drawing 2, with a single defeat.
As for the National County Sports Meet, Coach Mend has been doing a great job for Rivercess County, though of recent, the county is yet to book a final ticket since their first ever final and championship in 2007.
In the previous edition of the NCSM, Coach Mend’s boys of Rivercess County advanced to the knockout stage of the tournament with a 100% record, where they earned top spot ahead of hosts, Grand Bassa County.
Rivercess County suffered their first defeat to Nimba County in the knockout stage of the tournament at the SKD Sports Complex in Paynesville, which saw the Cestos Boys exiting the 2022/2023 edition of the tournament.
In another development, Sam Weh Okotie and Junior Barshell will serve as backroom staff to Coach Mend. Okotie and Barshell will serve as deputy coach and trainer respectively for the football team of Rivercess County.
Rivercess County have been paired in Group C with hosts, Nimba County, as well as Grand Kru County and Bong County.
Rivercess County won their first ever National County Sports Meet Championship in 2007, where they defeated Grand Gedeh County 2-0, and suffered a defeat in their second successful final in a row to Bong County.
Bong County defeated Rivercess County 4-3 to clinch the 2008 edition of the NCSM football Category.
