The Chinese Embassy in Liberia on December 22, held an online annual award ceremony of the “Chinese Ambassador Scholarship”.
Ambassador Ren introduced the great achievements of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in the past century, the Sixth Plenary Session of the 19th Central Committee, China’s development achievements, the whole process of people’s democracy, the Beijing Winter Olympic Games, the significance and outcome of the Eighth Ministerial Conference of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), and China’s anti-epidemic and “Belt and Road” cooperation with other countries.
Ambassador Ren pointed out that facing the challenge of the Covid-19 epidemic, China is willing to work with Liberia to strengthen cooperation under the frameworks of the “Belt and Road” initiative, the Global Development Initiative, and the FOCAC, and closely dock the “Pro-poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development ” advocated by President Weah to help Liberia realize national development and prosperity.
The embassy said it is willing to continue to build more platforms for the development of education and human resources development cooperation, further deepen educational cooperation and cultural exchanges, and consolidate the foundation of public opinion for the relations between the two countries.
Ambassador Ren expressed his warm congratulations to the 185 award-winning students from the University of Liberia, Tubman University, and Cuttington University, and encouraged them to work hard in their respective professional fields and become pillars of promoting the economic and social development of Liberia, and at the same time continue to inherit and carry forward the China-Liberia friendship and contribute to the mutual understanding of the two peoples.
The presidents of the three universities in Liberia gave speeches respectively, thanking China for its important contributions to Liberian education and economic and social development, and commended the “Chinese Ambassador Scholarship” as another important measure for China to support Liberian education and talent fostering, which will provide important talent support for the long-term sustainable development of the country’s construction and bring benefits for the future. Liberia is deeply grateful and is willing to further strengthen Liberia-China education and cultural exchanges and cooperation.
The representatives of the award-winning students delivered speeches one after another and said that they felt excited and warm in receiving the Chinese Ambassador Scholarship and thanked the Chinese Embassy in Liberia for their valuable help and support.
According to them, they are willing to make efforts and contribute to the deepening of the friendship between the people of Liberia and China.
More than 50 people attended the event including Ren Yisheng, Chinese Ambassador to Liberia, Dr. Julius J. Sarwolo Nelson, President of the University of Liberia, Dr. D. Elliott Wreh-Wilson, President of Tubman University, Dr. Romelle A. Horton, President of Cuttington University, the representatives from the universities and the award-winning students, and the Political Counselor Xu Kun and Director of Political Office Li Zhaoxin from the embassy.
