Chaos At NEC Headquarters

Chaos engulf the premises of the National Elections Commission (NEC) when supporters of rivalries political parties , who took part in the Montserrado County by-elections held recently, clashed, but riot police was at hand to calm the storm.
As a result of the chaos, which took place yesterday, two persons claiming to be partisans of the governing party, Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), were arrested, while a vehicle belonging to the Unity Party (UP) of the Collaborating Political Parties was damaged.
These incidents happened when partisans of both parties were reportedly engaged in stones throwing causing employees of NEC and bystanders to take cover for dear lives before the police reinforcement could step in.
The chaos started when supporters of the Montserrado County’s Senator -elect, Darious Dillon, on one hand, and CDC’s Montserrado County’s Representative Candidate of Electoral District #15, Abu Kamara, decided to made their way into the compound of NEC without permission.
The incident occurred at a time when the Hearing Officer of the NEC is investigating complaints emanating from the recent by-elections held in electoral District #15. The complaints were filed by Telia Urey of the ALP, a member of the Collaborating Political Parties. She contested the elections against Abu Kamara of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC).
Based on preliminary results announced by the NEC Telia Urey is said to be leading her rival, Abu Kamara. But the formal results of the elections are on hold until the outcome of the investigation.
However, many of the supporters of the opposing parties had converged at the NEC headquarters amid speculations that the results of the complaints were to be announced by the NEC yesterday.
All efforts exerted in speaking to Senator Darius Dillon, who was seen with Henry Costa on the scene, proved futile, as Abu Kamara accused Telia Urey supporters for instigating the violence.
He noted that the supporters of Telia Urey were hired by her political party to disrupt the hearing process, adding that his supporters did not come for violence but instead to witness the process.
“They were the first to throw stones at my people as many of them are wounded. As I speak to you, some of my supporters are now in the hospital taking treatment. I am really disappointed in those guys who supposed to be Liberians, as this process will soon be over and one person will emerge as winner,” Kamara explained further.
