Nimba County’s District 7 Representative, Musa Hassan Bility, has joined in the public criticism of the Boakai-led administration terming the Unity Party as a political institution that lied its way to power for which they are currently being haunted by the doctrine of reality in governance.
The lawmaker firmly stated in a public radio appearance yesterday in Monrovia that the Unity Party ran their entire 2023 campaign on lies and deceptions that governing the country was costly under the regime of President George Weah, by citing some common issues in the wrong manner.
According to him, now that President Boakai is in power and seeing the realities of the time, the Chief Executive has now started breaking the many promises he made to the citizens.
The realities, according to Rep Bility, are proving that the Boakai’s administration is expanding financial resources far more than what former President Weah was chided for on foreign travel and other expenditures.
“The Unity Party ran a campaign on lies and misinformation and that is what now biting them in return. Everything they campaign on is like complete deja vu because they are going back to it step by step,” he explained.
Representative Bility further reminded Liberians that the current regime spews lies daily concerning electrical power outages at the airport and other places.
This situation, he said, has not been solved by those who claimed that they could handle it adequately.
Another instance the lawmaker cited includes the recent purchase of a 2025 Lexus LX 700HR Super Ultra Luxury SUVs, reportedly valued over US$300,000 at a time citizens are concerned about the government working with basic actors to return learning activities to high schools and provide more solutions to the bread-and-butter issues.
“It is wrong to campaign on lies like what the Unity Party did in 2023 to come to power. Misinformation will catch up with you if you do your campaign like that against other people. Members of the Unity Party were on President Weah’s back for the airport, accusing him of riding expensive cars and flying planes at expensive cost. They were misinforming the public but now they are doing just what they complained of,” he narrated.
He however encouraged political actors to focus more on campaigning on the real issues and selling their respective political ideologies during electioneering periods rather than attacking other candidates’ personalities due to political differences.
According to Representative Bility, key officials are getting drawn into allegations of corruption despite the numerous work they are doing in different sectors.
He mentioned that the Managing Director of the National Port Authority, Sekou Dukuly is doing well and revamping the port system across the country but he is drowning in misinformation.
“The guy at the NPA is doing his utmost best. He is drowning into misinformation and allegations of tribalism when almost 90% of the so-called Mandigo people that are talked about were there before he went there. Nobody sees the elevation he’s doing at the port because the UP just snare other people the same way,” he noted.
At the same time, Representative Bility intimated that the President with a vast experience and understanding of what government should be doing, is not demonstrating to be in charge of his presidency which is leaving many things unturned accordingly.
He encouraged President Boakai to step up his gains by correcting the wrongs he complained of in opposition and get engaged with the people through media briefings like former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf did throughout her regime to be acquainted with the plight of the masses.
“I am one of the people who believes that he is not in charge. The Joseph Boakai I know, who knows government, if he puts himself in charge things will be different; but he is giving his people more time at the detriment of the country because there are so many loose ends in this government,” Representative Bility disclosed.
