CAC Wants Justice Minister-Designate Confirm

By Bill W. Cooper
The Citizens Action Committee (CAC) is calling on members of the Liberian Senate to see the need and confirm Justice Minister-designate, Cllr. Cooper Kruah.

Cllr. Kruah was designated as Minister of Justice by President Joseph Boakai recently, sparking debate among his critics who doubted his ability to effectively serve in said position, with his loyalty to Sen. Prince Johnson, who is in complete opposition to the establishment of a War and Economic Crimes Court in the country.

But the CAC, at a news conference recently, said, “The Citizens Action Committee commends President Joseph Boakai for the appointment of Cllr. Cooper Kruah as Justice Minister, and calls on the Liberian Senate to unconditionally confirm him, because Cllr. Cooper Kruah is one of Liberia’s legal luminaries who possesses the needed legal understanding and experience to serve as Attorney General of this Country.”

CAC is a conglomeration of five civil society organizations, namely, the Progressive Student Alliance of Liberia, Youths for Democratic Action, Intellectual Student Movement of Liberia, Southeast Youths and Student Alliance of Liberia, and National Youths Council of Liberia.

Addressing the news conference, CAC Executive Director, Prince Grandoe, also reacted to a FrontPage Africa report rendering Cllr. Kruah a corrupt figure through the narration of issues that lack validity and substance.

This, he maintained, “In its January 29, 2024 edition, the paper also likened Cllr. Kruah to Cllr. Charles Gibson, whose appointment as Justice Minister was withdrawn by President Weah due to some corrupt accusations on his character.

The paper then narrated a case between Cllr. Kruah and the Mano River Agriculture Rehabilitation and Development Corporation (MARDCO), and a case involving Cllr. Kruah and his wife,” he said.
According to him, having followed these issues, and coupled with the life profile and character Cllr. Kruah, his organization views the FPA publication as baseless, unwarranted, and intended to defame the reputable character of Cllr. Kruah.

Grandoe also emphasized, “We see the publication as a politically induced action to undermine and diminish the character of Cllr. Kruah as he faces the Liberian Senate for his confirmation as Justice Minister of Liberia.”

He explained that the FPA publication does not only lack substance and materiality to deny Cllr. Cooper his job, but also intended to disparage or vilify the level of professional performance and contributions he has made in the legal field.

CAC also termed as diabolical and sinister the accusations made by the FPA that Cllr. Kruah is abusive of women, and thereby accused Cllr. Kruah’s wife of providing false information about her husband to the FPA to cover up her ‘unscrupulous deals’.
