Ahead of the National County Sports Meet, Bassa Sports Association (BSA) has signed three players from the Liberia Football Association National First Division League, to join the three players previously selected from the second division league to close the six slots available to division players, according the rules of the National County Sports Meet.
According to reports gathered from the county’s capitol, Buchanan, Saturday night December 10, witnessed conclusion of talks between the Bassa Sports Association and the players, which led to Varney Sando of Watanga Football Club, Jenkin Sieh of Paynesville Football Club, and John Momo of the Liberia Shipping and Corporate Registry (LISCR) Football Club, singing a deal with the county authority.
Before the signing of the topflight league players, the BSA had signed Theo Williams of Gardnerville Football Club, who is the current top scorer in the second division league; Theophilus Nyumah, the captain of Gardnerville FC, and winger, Augustine “Waste” Dayougar of Black Man Warrior, to fill their second division slots.
Meanwhile, The Bassa Sports Association has terminated the contract of its newly appointed head coach, Ralph Samso, alias ‘Coach Zuma’, due to lack of qualification to meet up with the Ministry of Youth and Sports rules to govern the National County Sports Meet.
According to a portion of the rules, head coaches of every county should obtain a minimum of license C, something Ralph Samso lacks.
In a recent interview with the media, Ralph Samso confirmed that he has a license D in coaching, which doesn’t meet up with the standards of the National County Sports Meet.
With the rules, Grand Bassa Sports Association appeared to have no other option but to speedily replace Ralph Samso with another coach who has a License ‘C’ coaching certificate.
The BSA took its decision on December 8, 2023, after the Ministry of Youth and Sports released their guidelines. BSA’s decision is in line with Article X, Section 11.3 and 11.4.
The BSA authority, after the decision, decided to hire Coach Martin Toclo to replace the disqualified coach. Toclo came to the limelight when he was at the helm of the Sam Johnson Football Academy, where he harnessed the talents of many young footballers in Monrovia and Grand Bassa, and now with the Ken Football Academy in Grand Bassa County.
The coach, who is a proponent of attacking football, is expected to draw up a young, hungry, and competitive squad capable of winning the competition this term.
