The Bong County Christian Association (BOCA) has publicly distanced itself from the decision to honor Senator Prince Kermue Moye as ‘Godfather of Bong County.
On March 22, 2025, a group of religious leaders under the banner of ‘Prophetic Call to Ministry Like-minded Pastors’ named and honored Senator Prince Kermue Moye as the ‘Political Godfather’ of Bong County.
The President of the organization and Bishop of the Dominion Christian Fellowship Center in Gbarnga, Minikon Nyenpan, revealed that they were honoring Senator Prince Kermue Moye based on his dedication to Bong County’s growth since his entry into politics.
Bishop Nyenpan noted that the ‘Political Godfather’ title was recognition of Moye’s efforts to bring progress to the County and Liberia at large.
The Dominion Christian Fellowship Center Church’s Bishop further admonished the Bong County Senator to use his new influence to unite the county and spearhead additional development initiatives.
However, Rev. Obediah Canmue, President of BOCA, expressed concerns about the unilateral decision made by these pastors.
He stated that the title undermines the objective role of the church in the community.
“We have a serious problem with those who give the ‘Godfather Title’ to Senator Moye on behalf of the Christian community,” he said.
Rev. Canmue clarified that while the Christian Community could recognize ordinary honorees, this situation is different.
He emphasized that BOCA, as a recognized religious organization, cannot promote division among leaders in Bong County by endorsing honorees based on political lines. Their mission, he said, is to foster peace and unity with the county.
Furthermore, Rev. Canmue reiterated that BOCA was not involved in the decision to crown Senator Moye and has held press conferences to inform the public of their position.
He mentioned that the group intends to certify all Bongese, particularly members of the Bong County Legislative Caucus, instead of selecting just one person for the position.
He highlighted that in biblical terms, the concept of a ‘godfather’ is not recognized, so BOCA has no role in this title conferral.
