The chairperson of a group in support of the presidential bid of Amb. Joseph Nyuman Boakai is calling on political parties in the opposition bloc to unite in their quest to unseat President George Weah come October.
The chairperson of the group dubbed ‘Boakai Square,’ J. Mbozua Barclay, said it is unhealthy for opposition political parties to keep attacking each other when the main bread and butter, health, education and social economic issues remain unaddressed.
“It troubles me to see us, opposition political parties, fight among ourselves when our children are in the ghettos, no drugs in the health centers and no teachers in the classrooms. It is time that we unite to remove this nightmare from on our heads,” Barclay said.
He made the comment on Sunday June 4 in Caldwell during a called meeting of the group.
According to him, Liberia has lost its international image under a footballing president who many thought would have used his international connections as a footballer to improve the lives of the common people.
“But instead, Mr. Weah and his group only came to loot to the extent that they are picking the crumbs from the ground,” he claimed.
Barclay observed that it is time that the opposition political parties put aside their egos and work together to safe Liberia from Mr. Weah and his group noting, “We must unite in every way to fight Mr. Weah on every political front to ensure that he is defeat at the first ballot.”
“We should not settle for a second round. We must beat him on the first ballot and this can only be done with a united force from the opposition bloc.,” he asserted, stating, “I am therefore calling on all of us in the opposition to refrain from attacking each other and focus on our political manifestos on how we can safe Liberia and rebrand its lost image,” he observed.
Meanwhile, the Boakai Square has submitted a letter of intent to the Unity Party, asking to be recognized as an auxiliary to the UP.
Presenting the letter to the Secretary General of the UP, Amos Tweah, on June 6, 2023, chairman Barclay said his organization has over 100 membership and are still recruiting liked minded Liberians to join them to support the Amb. Boakai come October.
He said the group has coordinators in three counties and is working to establish offices in every part of Liberia expressing, “We are happy to submit our documents to you and promise to work assiduously to ensure that our candidate wins the presidential election.”
For his part, Mr. Amose Tweah thanked the group and recollected some of the progress the group is making to propagate Amb. Boakai’s presidential bid.
“These are men and women from different professional background who have been supporting the Ambassador since 2020. We are glad to receive you as passengers on the Rescue Train,” Mr. Tweah said.
He promised to work with the organization to ensure a first-round victory for the Unity Party and its candidates.
