The Chief Patron of sports, Joseph Boakai, has commtited to proceeding with his administration in a convenient way to revitalize sports in the country, with focus on the national team.
Last weekend, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Cllr. Jeror Cole Bangalu, and his deputies, along with other sports stakeholders, including the president of the Liberia Football Association, paid a visit to the Liberian leader, where he committed to developing sports across the nation.
Boakai told the stakeholders of the game that he believes in the transformative power of sports as a force capable of transcending boundaries, uniting communities, and igniting the flames of national pride.
According to a release issued by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, following the meeting with the chief patron of sports, the President reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the Liberia National Team and the gaming landscape of sports development in the nation.
The MYS release furthered that President Boakai’s address to the Minister and his team underscored the pivotal role that athletics play in shaping the fabric of Liberian society.
“As the discussion unfolded, President Boakai outlined a bold vision for the future of Liberian sports, one characterized by excellence, inclusivity, and opportunity for all,” the release said.
The Ministry added that, central to this vision of developing sports was the pledge to provide unflinching support to the Liberia National Team, equipping them with the resources and infrastructure necessary to compete on the global stage with confidence and conviction.
Moreover, President Boakai’s commitment extended far beyond the confines of elite competition, as he recognized the critical importance of investing in grassroots sports, where talents are nurtured, dreams take root, and the seeds of future champions are sown.
The Liberian President emphasized that during the National County Sports Meet, each county must provide players from their county, as the way of enhancing the talent and productivity of young players.
The President promised to channel significant resources into grassroots sports programs, by building sports facilities in every county, ensuring that every Liberian child has the opportunity to unlock their athletic potential.
During the meeting, the Liberia Football Association president, Mustapha Raji, presented the budget for the Lone Star’s match with Djibouti on March 20 and 26, 2024.
