Boakai Charts New Path For Regional Security, Development

President Joseph Boakai has called for a renewed regional commitment to democracy, peace, and development, as he met with Ghana’s outgoing President Nana Akufo-Addo.
The visit underscores Liberia’s commitment to fostering regional cooperation and advancing shared development goals within West Africa.
On December 29, President Boakai met with the Ghanaian leader in Accra to discuss key issues surrounding sub-regional security and strategies to enhance bilateral collaboration between Liberia and Ghana.
The two leaders held wide-ranging discussions on sub regional security and bilateral cooperation, reaffirming their countries’ shared commitment to regional peace and development.
President Boakai congratulated President Akufo-Addo and the people of Ghana for another peaceful and credible election. He lauded Ghana’s democratic maturity as a beacon of hope in a region grappling with political instability and conflict.
“This is not just Ghana’s victory; this is a win for Africa’s democracy. The people of Ghana have shown the world that peaceful transitions remain the hallmark of strong nations,” President Boakai stated.
The talks, which delved into sub-regional security, underscored the urgency of coordinated action to combat threats such as terrorism, cross-border crimes, and political upheavals. Boakai emphasized that regional security is the foundation upon which development and prosperity must be built.
“Security is a collective responsibility. Liberia stands ready to work with Ghana and other ECOWAS states to ensure our region remains stable and resilient,” Boakai noted, signaling Liberia’s intent to play a more active role in shaping the region’s security architecture.
However, both leaders agreed to deepen trade and investment ties, with a focus on creating opportunities for their citizens. President Boakai stressed the need for innovative partnerships to boost industries and create jobs across borders.
President Akufo-Addo, reflecting on his tenure, reaffirmed Ghana’s support for Liberia’s development journey.
He urged continued cooperation between the two nations, noting that West Africa’s strength lies in its unity.
Meanwhile, the meeting sets the stage for what could be a defining moment in Liberia-Ghana relations, as Boakai is expected to meet Ghana’s incoming President John Dramani Mahama.
This upcoming engagement is expected to build on the strong foundations laid under Akufo-Addo’s administration.
