The competition, held under the theme “Inclusive Development through Sports,” began over the weekend, drawing participants and spectators from across the country.
In his keynote address at the opening ceremony, President Boakai highlighted the transformative potential of sports in fostering national unity and driving social progress. “Sports is more than entertainment; it is a tool for healing, reconciliation, and building the bonds that make us one people,” he said.
The President commended stakeholders, including lawmakers, community leaders, media practitioners, and organizers, for their efforts in maintaining the County Meet as a symbol of national pride.
He emphasized the government’s commitment to using the event to promote cohesion and development.
“To our athletes, you are the heart of this tradition,” the President said, encouraging participants to uphold discipline, sportsmanship, and patriotism throughout the tournament. “Compete fiercely, but let the spirit of unity prevail. This event reminds us that even in competition, we are stronger together.”
President Boakai also spoke about the broader significance of the County Meet, highlighting its role in empowering youth, promoting economic growth, and fostering social harmony. “This event is not just about sports; it is about shaping a future where every Liberian feels included, valued, and inspired to contribute to our nation’s progress,” he noted.
