Blackman Warriors Crowned Inaugural Borough Cup Champions

Liberia Football Association First Division newcomers, Blackman Warriors, have clinched the inaugural Borough Cup title in a thrilling final.
On Saturday, August 17, 2024, Blackman Warriors triumphed 3-0 over host team Global Pharma FC at the D. Tweh Sports Pitch in New Kru Town’s Borough. This victory not only secured the Warriors the coveted trophy but also highlighted their impressive form ahead of the new season.
Global Pharma FC began the match with a flurry of attacking intent, with Sylvester Doe and Vakaba Kamara both threatening the Warriors’ goal. However, Blackman Warriors’ goalkeeper Dominic Dorbor was in superb form, pulling off several crucial saves to keep the scoreline level.
The first significant breakthrough came when Blackman Warriors’ Prince Martor capitalized on a well-placed cross from Elijah Reeves. Martor’s header in the first half broke the deadlock and sent the Warriors’ fans into jubilant celebration.
Despite continued pressure from Global Pharma, Dorbor’s resolute defending in goal kept them at bay. In the second half, Elijah Reeves doubled the Warriors’ lead with a well-taken rebound, marking his fourth goal of the tournament.
The game took a decisive turn when Global Pharma’s goalkeeper Terry Toe was shown a straight red card for a foul on Reeves outside the box. With Global Pharma down to ten men, Foday Massaquio sealed Blackman Warriors’ victory with a stunning curving shot that left substitute goalkeeper Abdulai Koulibaly helpless.
In the aftermath of the match, Blackman Warriors were awarded medals and the Borough Cup trophy. The team will also receive a cash prize of one hundred thousand Liberian Dollars upon the return of the trophy.
Individual accolades included Dominic Dorbor being named Best Goalkeeper, Elijah Reeves receiving the Highest Goal Scorer award, and Siafa Freeman earning the Best Defender honor. Global Pharma’s Vakaba Kamara was awarded the Most Valuable Player (MVP) title, while Reo Nyanti, coach of Global Pharma, was named Best Coach.
Global Pharma President Sylvanus Morris praised all participating teams for their contributions to the success of the inaugural tournament. He announced that the Borough Cup will become an annual event, designed to help teams prepare for the new league season.
The tournament featured eight teams from the First, Second, and Third Divisions and was sponsored by Montserrado County District 16 Representative Dixon Seboe, along with BukonJadeh Group of Companies and Samuel Weah.
