The Bishop of the Independent Catholic Church of Liberia (ICCL), Nimely Jacobkly Donyen, has again given 150 bundles of zinc to another group of disaster victims.
Barely two weeks ago, he distributed the same amount of zinc to some residents of District 2 in Montserrado County whose homes were affected by the recent storm.
At the distribution ceremony over the weekend at his residence, he disclosed that the initiative is principally an effort to bring relief to some affected residents whom he admitted are faced with challenges and pointed out that the storm further exacerbated their conditions.
The Representative aspirant of District 2 Montserrado County Presidential and legislative elections informed the group of distressed storm and fire victims that the zinc is only for people who houses were devastated by the storm as well as those whose properties were also recently gutted by fire.
Beneficiaries of the ICCL Clergy’s latest gesture are residents of the New Store Mount Barclay, Pepperwulue Town; Red Hill, City view, Karnkarn Town; Chicken Farm, New Israel; Black Gina, Nickley Town; Garvleh Town, Kparwen; Lone Star, St. Francis; Nimba United, Moud Town including Rehab City View, South Africa in Liberia Communities, among others.
According to him, they experienced an increase in the demand of commodity after the first distribution as more people were coming at his residence on a daily basis requesting for more zinc which accordingly triggered the purchase of additional 150 bundles.
“Those who were affected and listed will be served according to the level of damage their properties suffered. We are also going to serve people who are struggling under very old roofs so that they can repair their houses,” he promised.
He stressed that the zinc currently being provided is only for disaster victims because it is noticed that some people are asking for the zinc so that they can complete the roofing aspect of their houses that are under construction but asserted that the gesture is out of the intent of the project.
Speaking further, Bishop Donyen indicated that he has keenly observed without doubt that disaster is a potential factor that stimulates poverty particularly among the poverty-stricken population and so when elected, his plan is to establish a district disaster office that will be an instant responder in case of any emergency and or disaster in the district.
“The office will be provided with the necessary resources to quickly intervene when disaster hits the people because it mostly affects the underprivileged in the society,” he told the people.
He also stated that time is very cardinal when it comes to adequately addressing issues of disaster so the district disaster office will be prepared at all times to cater to the needs of the victims pointing out that if the menace occurs in the district, the appropriate actions will immediately be taken.
The determined legislative aspirant then urged the people of District 2 to continue working with him for the implementation of more projects in the district and informed them that all his developmental plans can only be realized through collaborative efforts from everyone.
Responding to Bishop Donyen’s humanitarian aid, the Elder of Chicken Farm, A. Bondo Neawoe, showered praises on him for his sustained humanitarian assistance including developmental initiatives that have impacted every segment of the district.
Venus Kennedy also commended the donor of the zinc for coming to their aid at the appropriate time when the raining season has just started in the country, so she described him as a dependable pillar in time of needs and as such, she prayed that God gives him what he desires in life.
The Chairperson of the Jacob Town Community, Gayflor Sackor, lauded Bishop Donyen for amazingly being selfless relative to rendering services to the district and its people adding, “I have high regard for him because he treats everyone equally without discrimination which is a core leadership charisma.”
