Bishop Donyen Craves For President Weah’s Intervention Again

As water being equated to life because it forms the basis of man’s existence, the Bishop of the Independent Catholic Church of Liberia (ICCL), Bishop Nimely Jarbokly Donyen is craving for the timely intervention of President Weah.
He said that he is requesting for the President’s intervention as Liberia Water Sewer Corporation (LWSC) is intentionally denying his institution, Cheerful Givers High School (CGHS) and parts of the community safe drinking water that he paid more than US$19,000 (Nineteen thousand United States Dollars) for its installation.
The Bishop stated over the weekend in Johnsonville that since the payment was made to LWSC, the service has not been provided as the four-inch pipe that he bought so that other people in the community could also benefit was blocked thus preventing the water from reaching to his school up the hill.
“Water is coming to our community but my water line has been blocked with a valve about 600 feet away from the campus while water sellers are receiving the water. I have written the President on many occasions about this issue as well as other officials of the Government,” he explained.
The ICCL Prelate further indicated that they have been encountering difficulties since the incident in November 2017 as it relates to safe drinking water saying that it is unbelievable for him to be treated in this manner and form during President George Manneh Weah’s Administration.
“President Weah is my kinsman; I am from Behtu just 30 minutes’ walk from his home, Filokle in Sasstown, Grand kru County, so I have the conviction that he is the person who can solve this problem,” he stressed.
According to the Bishop, the President has been solving many problems in and out of the country so he is appealing to him again to solve this most important one because it concerns the welfare of the kids at his school adding, “ Let justice and equal rights prevail for all”.
“When the President won the World Best Player Award in 1995 as well as other awards, if those awards were given to another player then how would he have felt,” he wondered.
CGHS Boss however disclosed that his students were severely flogged last year, 2018 when they staged a peaceful march in the community in demand of their water apparently by those who are getting the service at which time most of them sustained injuries along with a teacher. As such, he has vowed that the children will not protest again for their own rightful possession.
“We will continue to appeal to the President to settle this matter for the sake of humanity because the LWSC Employees are working at his will and pleasure,” he maintained.
Meanwhile, the Bishop has reiterated the need for the President to avoid the forceful eviction and demolition of citizens’ homes without compensation like the manner in which many Kru Towns from River Cess to Behtu were burnt by the Liberian Army from 1913 to 1916 noting that Filokle, President’s home in Sasstown was also attacked and burnt down in 1932 forcing his grand-parents to flee into the forest and became homeless for eight years.
