Nimba County District 7 Representative, Musa Bility, has made a patriotic statement regarding his son, Peach Bility, recently caught by the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) with illicit drugs and arms in his possession.
In a statement issued over the weekend, he said, in as much he is hurt after hearing the news of his son being arrested for being in the possession of drugs, there is need that the country’s justice system conduct a thorough investigation and hold all those involved accountable.
He, at the same time, expressed his disappointment and concern over his son’s actions, and stated that he must face the consequences of his choices and behavior, regardless of his familial ties and his position in government.
The LDEA, last Thursday, announced that Peach Bility was arrested and charged with the alleged crimes of unlicensed possession, sale, and distribution of controlled drugs or substances in Liberia.
According to the LDEA charge sheet, suspect Bility was arrested with 500 grams of marijuana, 24.1 grams of Kush, a single barrel gun, one black pistol, and ammunition by the LDEA officers on Miami Beach.
The LDEA said prior to the investigation, suspect Bility was informed of his constitutional rights to a lawyer through a phone call to remain silent, adding that he also admitted that he was arrested for smoking a narcotic substance publicly on the beach.
The LDEA further disclosed that the marijuana and kush found in his car were not a prescription, something that violates Sections 14.85 and 14.89 of the new amended drug law of the republic of Liberia.
But in his post on his Facebook page, Rep. Bility said, “Today, the LDEA delivered the distressing news that our son, Peach Bility, has been apprehended on charges related to illegal narcotics and firearms.”
“Our family, like countless others in Liberia, has not been spared from the devastating consequences of having loved ones entangled in the web of illegal drugs. We are all too familiar with the perils and difficulties that arise from the presence of illicit substances and weapons in our society.
“As parents, the anguish we have endured in our quest for solutions is beyond words and we hold an unwavering and unconditional love for our son, and his arrest today only deepens the pain we have carried for far too long,” he said.
Bility furthered, “Nevertheless, he is an adult who must face the consequences of his actions and choices. This issue continues to afflict our nation, and we must make every effort to safeguard the future of our youth.”
“We place our trust in the justice system to conduct a thorough investigation and hold all those involved accountable. Our prayers go out to the victims, families, and loved ones who have been affected by this toxic plague infiltrating our communities,” he added.
