The Managing Editor of Liberia’s oldest postwar Newspaper, The Inquirer, is calling on all Liberians to come together as a unified force for the growth and development of Liberia. In a passionate and patriotic message issued yesterday, in observance of Unification Day, Madam Christiana Winnie Saywah-Jimmy also emphasized the importance of unity and Liberians working together as one in achieving progress and prosperity for the nation.
Unification Day is proclaimed as a national holiday in Liberia that commemorates the emergence of the African American settlers from the United States and the indigenous tribes of Liberia in 1847 following the funding of Liberia in 1822.
Also, it is a day that celebrates the diversity and unity of the Liberian people, and serves as a reminder of the importance of coming together as one nation despite each and everyone’s political or religious affiliations.
Madam Saywah-Jimmy at the same time highlighted the challenges facing Liberia ranging from social, political and the economy, among others, thus stressing the need for all Liberians to work together to foster growth and sustained development.
She also emphasized that division and discord only serve to hinder progress and development, and called on all citizens to set aside their differences and focus on the common goal of building a better future for Liberia.
The Inquirer Newspaper boss further pointed out that Liberia has made significant strides in recent years, with improvements in infrastructures, healthcare, rule of law, peace, security and education and as such, the need to continue on this path can never be over emphasized.
However, Madam Saywah-Jimmy noted that there is still much work to be done in order to fully realize the prospects of this nation and urged all Liberians to put aside their political egos, tribal, and regional differences and come together in a spirit of unity and cooperation.
She asserted that only by working together can Liberia achieve its full potential and become a prosperous and thriving nation, and therefore called on the government to take the lead in promoting unity and inclusivity.
Madam Saywah-Jimmy further admonished the government to not just create policies that benefit all Liberians, but strive to ensure their implementation regardless of the background or beliefs of those involved in violating them, stressing the importance of good governance and transparency in order to build trust and confidence among the people.
The Newspaper first female Managing Editor reiterated her call for unity and urged all Liberians to embrace the spirit of Unification Day and to work together for the common good of Liberia and noted that journalists are no exception.
She expressed her confidence that only with unity and determination, Liberia can overcome any challenges that lie ahead and achieve its full potential as a nation.
